Webinar April 2024 – ICTCT: Research methods and tools in traffic psychology

On 26 April 2024, ICTCT organizes a webinar ‘Research methods and tools in traffic psychology’. The honoured speaker is Dick de Waard, Professor of Traffic Psychology at the University of Groningen, Netherlands.

About the webinar:

While the methods and tools used in research in traffic psychology have evolved, there are also older techniques that are still in use.

Dr. De Waard says: "Growing older myself, I thought it would be nice to illustrate what has happened with tools and methods since I started working at the Traffic Research Centre in 1988. This will be by no means a complete overview, but some developments can be shown, such as the shift from on-road to simulator research. However, with reduced costs (and size) of electronics, studying everyday driving and cycling in real vehicles has come back and become within reach of many more researchers. In the presentation, the focus will be on driving and cycling research as used at our institute at the University of Groningen."

About the speaker

Dick de Waard is Professor of Traffic Psychology and the retention of Mobility at the University of Groningen, Netherlands. He has studied human behaviour in traffic and frequently in those studies the assessment of mental workload is central. Behavioural adaptation to (adaptive) automation in and outside the traffic environment are also main areas of interest and work. He has special interest in cyclists’ behaviour and the mobility of older traffic participants and persons with mild cognitive impairments.
