Completion of Consultancy Services for Road Safety Audit, Capacity Building and Data Collection for the Dar Es Salaam Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) System Project – Phase 2

My contract to provide the Road Safety Services for Dar Es Salaam Bus Rapid Transit Phase II was successfully fulfilled this month, December 2023 with the approval by the Client (Tanzania National Roads Agency, TANROADS) of my final report. As the Team Leader, assigned by Intercontinental Consultants & Technocrats Pr. Ltd., I received a heartening appreciation mail.

My services as the Road Safety Engineer and Team Leader to provide Dar Es Salaam Bus Rapid Phase II Road Safety Services commenced in early 2018. The Dar Es Salaam Bus Rapid Transit Phase II connects the commercial and industrial area in the southwest of Dar Es Salaam with the city centre and the Central Business District in the port area. This second phase of the BRT network will be operational from the beginning of 2024 onwards.

With my team of Highway Engineers, Enforcement Officer and Sociologist and Data Analysts, I carried out:

  • Accident Data Collection and Analysis of existing Traffic Conditions (2018)
  • Stage 3 Road Safety Audit-Review of Detailed Design (2018)
  • Stage 4 Road Safety Audit of Construction Works (50 % of works completed, 2022)
  • Stage 5 Road Safety Audit of Pre-Opening (95 % of works completed, 2023)
  • Awareness Campaigns for Local Communities, Primary and Secondary Schools in three Districts in three Cycles (2018, 2022 and 2023)
  • Road Safety Engineering Capacity Building for TANROADS staff (five-day training course, 2022)

It was a great pleasure to accomplish these services which are so extremely important for the improvement of road safety in this busy urban environment.
